First Impressions

To be honest, everything about 'This Lie Will Kill You' drew me in! The cover of the book is such a gorgeous colour and the reviews I found pushed me to buy it and see what I thought myself! The description seemed so interesting to me since I have started to branch out into more thriller/mystery books and I have always wanted to go to a murder mystery party (although I'm not sure I'd like to go to this one...).

The first few chapters introduced the characters quite well, though I did get a little confused a couple of times about who I was reading from the point of view of because they were all new and I hadn't yet been able to be fully immersed! I also wasn't very sure how each character really felt about one another: was it an act? Or am I just missing something? That being said, each chapter I became more and more intrigued as to what was going to happen later on, as well as what the truth was, so I do think Chelsea Pitcher does a fabulous job at building suspense in most of the right moments!

The Characters

Every character was very different to another and brought something new to the plot with their own traumatic experiences. A lot of these are such sensitive topics that needed to be handled with care, and I think Chelsea did an alright job with some of it, but I can't speak for all of it having not experienced it all myself.

I did enjoy uncovering the truth about the inner workings of some characters' minds and why they had done certain things when they did. At multiple moments, I could really feel for them: one example being Brett explaining why his bedroom was designed the way it was in the mansion. Overall, there was a lot to unpack in each character!

The Truth

Chelsea Pitcher really mapped out lots of twists and turns in this book so I have to praise her creativity! But, there are still some things that I don't actually know if they are true or not and there was just so much packed in at once I felt a bit disorientated and confused.

In the middle of all of the suspense, everything was fitting together perfectly and had me on tenterhooks about the next move! There was a lot of unexpected truths throughout the whole course of the book as well as clever revelations. Looking back, I can spot some of the signs and think ''aha, very smart!''

Final Thoughts

The final few chapters of this book disappointed me a little bit... The story made sense without the last handful of revelations which just confused me all over again - how do they actually feel about each other, or is it an act (pretty much my thoughts at the beginning)? I wasn't sure what kind of ending I would have wanted instead, I just didn't expect it to be that!

Conclusion

'This Lie Will Kill You' was quite entertaining to read in the middle section where the characters were opening up and the truth about what had happened to Shane Ferrick was coming to light. The ideas behind this book were really, really interesting but I think that there was so much fitted into one book that it kind of lost the thrill in the last section. I wasn't very keen on the ending, unfortunately, so the whole reading experience then felt a bit anti-climactic for me.

This book is definitely worth a try, though! There are bound to be others who thought the ending was great! I did see lots of mixed reviews, but what could have been one star for someone else, could be a four star from me - I try not to let this stop me from reading a book that has caught my eye!

Let me know what you think! :)
